Adaptations and Substitutions in an Elimination Diet

Becoming an Ingredient Detective

Elimination Diets are HARD. Especailly SOY.

Soy is in EVERYTHING.

Here is some important information for you, when someone says that you might be able to have soybean oil, or soy lecithin:

Please take it from me, for as "inconvienent" as this diet will be to your loved ones (be prepared for a lot of comments about how you are being "extreme")nothing trupms the pain your little one will be in for a day or two if soy protien is in that item that had soybean oil or soy lecitin listed as an ingredient.

If you have a favorite meal, or baked good, there is a strong chance that you can still make the exact recipe- you just need to make substitutions.

Milk- Almond Milk, Cashew Milk, Rice Milk, Coconut Milk

"buttermilk" - 1 cup of your choice of milk and 1T vinegar

Butter - 1:1 ratio substitution- Earth's Balance Soy Free "Butter"

Oil- olive oil, canola oil, coconut oil. NO vegetable oil.

Procesed Foods:

Gum- You will find that soy is in almost every form of Gum. We have found a brand of gum that does not contain soy.

Dairy
